Free on Friday

Sorry I'm running late today.  DD, the 14-y-o just left for an out of the country mission trip with the church youth group.  She's with friends, but I've been a nervous wreck, to say the least.  If you're a praying person, say a quick one for her safe trip and safe return.

Now, here are some free deals for Friday:

Agent in Training (Department of National Security)

 by Jerri Drennan

On the outside Shiloh Templar appears rigid as steel. But inside she's fighting to keep everything together. Not only has she stepped into a minefield of controversy at work, she's dealing with her father's debilitating disease and a past in Seattle she wants to forget. Week one as the new director, she’s forced to cut staff. The smart-mouthed, much-too-young and sexy Nicholas Trent's position is on the chopping block. Yet, rather than accepting his fate, the man blackmails her.

Nicolas Trent joined the Department of National Security solely for his mother's benefit in an attempt to follow in his dead father's footsteps. He never planned to stay. But when the company's new director, a fiery red-head nicknamed Old Iron Maiden makes it clear he's not DNS material and will probably be released from duty, Nick has a change of heart. He'll resort to any means to keep his job, even threatening to file a sexual harassment suit against the director for walking in on him in the men's shower room while he's naked. What he never dreamed of was the strong, undeniable attraction that could cost him what he's held on to so tightly.

When a threat and two attempts on Shiloh's life are made, the company insists she have an agent by her side. She's forced to turn to the one man she thinks doesn't belong at the department. Now, not only is she in danger of losing her life, after a night in his arms, she's afraid of losing her heart.

Here (On the Otherside) [Kindle Edition] by Denise Grover Swank

Sixteen year old Julia Phillips buries herself in guilt after killing her best friend Monica in a car accident. Julia awoke in the hospital with a broken leg, a new talent for drawing and false memories of the accident, in which she dies and Monica lives. The doctors attribute this to her head injury, but no one can explain how a bracelet engraved with her name ended up at the scene of the accident. A bracelet no one has ever seen before.

Classmate Evan Whittaker paid Julia no attention before the accident, let alone after. Now suddenly he’s volunteering to tutor her and offering to drive her home. She can't ignore that his new obsession started after his two-day disappearance last week and that he wears a pendant she’s been drawing for months. When the police show up one night looking for Evan, he begs Julia to run with him, convincing her that Monica is still alive. Julia agrees to go, never guessing where he’s really from.

A Little Ray Of Sunshine [Kindle Edition] By Lani Diane Rich

Rich takes a turn toward the serious in a romance primarily focused on a mother-daughter relationship. For six years, Emmy James has lived out of her Airstream, working odd jobs until she gets the urge to move on. Then she meets Jess, a young woman who declares herself Emmy's angel, sent to help her with her problems. At the same time, Digs, who would be her brother-in-law if Emmy hadn't left his brother Luke, shows up, bearing disturbing news: his father, Danny, and Emmy's mother, Lilly, are getting married. Lilly is vain, cruel, narcissistic and destructive-all the things Danny is not. Emmy is determined to stay away, but her angel knows best, and soon the Airsteam is headed home. While the story of Emmy's lost love is engaging, the heart of the story has to do with the transformation Emmy sees-but doesn't trust-in her mother. The process is painful and sometimes funny, and though the characters skate right to the edge of believability, the romance is very real. A thoughtful, well told story with an unusual twist.
